She's got legs...

So, Pax and I were playing together when he brushed up against my legs.

Pax: Mommy, your legs are SO pokey! (spoken with the distain of an annoyed 15 year old)

Me: (quickly rubbing my hand along my shins) My legs are not "SO pokey." They are just a little pokey. I just shaved them yesterday.

Pax: (pausing as if he needed to think of a tactful way to break bad news) Well, maybe you should have shaved them today.

The Darndest Things

A few Pax tidbits from the last couple of weeks...

Tissues Not Needed
Pax entered the room picking his nose.
Me: Pax, do you need a tissue for your boogers?

Pax: No, I just getting them out.

Me: I know, buddy, but let's get you a tissue to put them on.

Pax: No, I'm fine. Flicking whatever he got onto the floor.

YouTube
Pax loves the movie and characters from Disney's Cars. We were watching the accompanying Pixar short films featuring Tow Mater on Youtube.com. We'd watched a few 3 minute videos and I closed the window on the computer.

Pax: No, Mommy, don't turn it off.

Me: Pax, we've watched like 52 videos. Let's go play in the other room.

Pax: I need watch just one more. Said in a sing-song voice.

Me: Why, so you can watch like 53 videos?

Pax: Oh, yeah! Ok!

Pretty Awesome
Pax got a new room from Santa. He's been sleeping in it for nearly a month now, but still it's quite a novelty in our lives. Another post sometime to feature the new room, but this for today.

Pax: Let me show you my room, Mommy. You like my new room?

Me: Yeah, I do!

Pax: Shrugs. Yeah, it's pretty awesome.

Pax Dawg
Eating a local restaurant, I returned from the salsa bar to hear this.

Pax: Acting silly says some unintelligible gibberish

Travis: For real, dawg?

Pax: For shizzle, my dizzle.

Caught off guard, we laughed. Then he proceeded to say it to many other restaurant patrons. We may be eating at home for awhile.

Mr. Table
Putting Pax down for a nap, he asked about a little table that used to sit in the kitchen. He used the table for playdough and drawing, but we'd moved it out of that room when we had our Christmas tree in there. Even with the decorations put away, the table has yet to move back in.

Pax: Mommy, move that playdough thing back in.

Me: Are you talking about your little table that you use for playdough?

Pax: Yeah.

Me: Have you missed your table?

Pax: Who's Mr. Table?

Making the Naughty List

Paxon has a few "dirty words." We didn't teach him that these are funny or dirty or sometimes inappropriate to say loudly in church. He just inately picked up on the fact that some words have more power than others. I'm still wondering how in the world his brain was wired to clump these words together in this sort of category... this is why language development is facinating to me, but I'm digressing into speech-pathology nerdiness here...

We have an application on our phones that basically allows a small cuddly animal to record your words and repeat them back to you in a pitch and rate modified voice. This is exactly as ridiculous and entertaining as you'd think. What words does Pax like to say to the cute fuzzy kitten? You got it: poop, tee tee, potty, trash, trashcan, hiney. I'll try to get video of him doing this and post it later. In the meantime, tonight, I overheard this conversation happening between Pax and Travis as they were brushing teeth in the bathroom:

Travis: Can you do good listening? I don' t know why he is opening himself up to a negative answer here...

Pax: Nope! Poo poo! Tee tee! Hiney! Here Travis has the much harder job of not laughing out loud. As I was in the other room, I didn't have to rise to that challenge. I see how this is going to get tricky...

About 15 minutes later, saying prayers...

Me: God bless Mommy, Daddy doo. The line in the prayer goes on to rhyme "Paxon, too." I am interrupted after "Daddy doo." You can see where this is going...

Pax: Mommy say "doo doo!" Here Travis cannot contain himself and bursts into laughter. I am afraid we will never be able to pray this prayer again...

a rose by any other name would smell as sweet

It's well documented that Pax talked early and now talks a lot. I guess that's what you get when you're mom's a speech pathologist. He's always been pretty sociable, and lately, I've really been appreciating his company and conversation. He tells me stories of what happened when I'm not around. He recounts things we've experienced together with specific and accurate description. He makes up stories about things that never happened at all (maybe we should worry about this one).

While most things he says are pretty easy to understand, there's a growing vocabulary list that require some interpretation. Here are a few enjoyable Pax-isms:

Blehla-blehla-blehla (not really a word, mostly just flipping his tongue) = drink
For the record, he can say drink, he just invented this word over a year ago and for some reason really prefers it. He might be saying it this way when he's 18.

Cookie Monster Truck = Monster Truck
Some things just go together, like cookies and monsters

Keen keen bed = zucchini bread
Thank you, Delvin Farms, for the wonderful fresh produce that has forced me to make zucchini bread and other yummy treats all summer.

Keen keen bed car = Lamborghini
We've been making zucchini bread a lot this summer. We've also been playing with matchbox style cars quite a bit. Zucchini...Lamborghini... I think someone could write a children's song about this.

hip hops = hiccups
As in "Pax have hip hops."

M = M or any letter

T Daddy = T

P Pax = P

Mommy one = A
